Unhappy Economy-meter always red

Hi!
I own a Corolla 1300, 91 years model with one annoying problem. The Economy-meter (or whatever the correct name would be) is always red. Nothing else is weird with the car (except maybe a little high rpm when the enigne is cold).

Any suggestions of how to solve this problem. It really annoys me

I have checked the connections to the vacuum sensor and the vacuum hoses connected to it (and all other vacuum hoses for that matter).

I’m Thankful for any help!
Johan

What the hell is the "Economy-meter" Do you mean the check engine light?

It's a pair of lights (one red, one green) that come on to tell you when you're getting good or bad fuel economy, if I understand correctly. I've attached a pic of them, and I've also seen them on cars with tachs too.

Its mostly a european thing I guess... it works on manifold vacuum so maybe you got either a broken line going to the meter sensor, broken sensor OR theres something wrong with the vacuum portion of the gauge.
