Following on from my original "'91 steering issues" thread, is a ball joint replacement something that can be attempted by a diy'er with simple tools? Or are there specialty tools that are required to do the job? What about allignment when the job is done? Are ball joints expensive? What's the expected life of a ball joint? Is a part from a wrecker advisable?

Can anyone describe how a ball joint replacement is done?

Yeah, I'm doing it in the back yard... basic tools, but you might need to crack the nuts on one occasion..if they are stuck... mine are stuck and now I'm using a cutter to cut off the nuts... argh, its a bitch to do, but a DIYer can do it.
