I'm looking into modifying my exhaust system a little, an have a few options that I would like some opinions on...
1) Get a Pacesetter Monza cat-back. It's the easiest thing to do, but I'm afraid the pipe diameter is too big for my engine as it sits at the moment. Since the car is reletivley new to me, I have only a freer flowing intake. Are there any other catbacks that don't cost at least 500$ ?
2) Bring it to a muffler shop & get them to weld in a muffler, either a turbo style (perforated multi-core design) or a straight through type. Which sounds better?
3) Looking at my exhaust system, there is a very small resonator just before the main muffler and there is also a mini muffler right next to the catalytic converter.
- So my question is, is removing the mini muffler next to the cat a good idea, or would this make the sound way too raspy, even though I plan on leaving the resonator?
I'm mainly looking to make the car louder, but would there be any benefit to having a moderately bigger pipe (ie: 2"-2 1/4")? It starts of as 2" but works it's way down to something like 1 3/4". I know the drawbacks of having "too big" a pipe...But what is too big on these cars?
Do I have any other options? The car is just way too quiet!
Wooo.. make your car sound louder.. attract the attention of cops.. they love it.. plus you just sound like you are driving a loud hunk of shit which is slow as fuck to begin with, go speed ricer.
in my opnion, try to get your hands on KBD headers, or custom one done by any shops or personnal who knows how to, and attach 2 1/2 ~2 3/4 dia. pipe all the way down to the exhaust......get these done by exhaust shop ofcourse.
Punisher: be nice to the fellow guy man he means no harm to us, and getting advice is very had things these days

Hey, this slow ass hunk of shit is still made by the same car company as the car you're driving This is my first japaneese car so lay of a little would ya? How about saying something worth while, like what I should do instead?
Anyway, thanks TRDragoon & toyotaspeed90. The car is 13 years old now, so I want to tackle the exhaust before it starts getting rust holes and starts leaking, thus really sounding like a slow ass, hunk of shit.

a little big don'tcha think?!?!
unless you plan on going turbo or supercharged (and even at that, unless you're running high boost, 2.75" is too big) go with a 2.25" cat-back piping, with a 2.25" inlet/outlet muffler
i'm running the KBD header, 2.5" high flow cat (someone already had it... not much i can do about the size on that one), and 2.25" piping with a 2.25" inlet/outlet Turbo muffler.....

What else have you done to the car? How does it sound?
Would anyone know where I can get 4age soundclips?

im runing stock Headers, custom downpipe 2.5" and 2.75 Catback to exhaust. its a bit too much, i have no low end, but my highrange is incredible sounds great too, no popping noise, more grumble...
my 4age is swapped in from a 4a-fe..... using a tuned 4a-fe ecu (map) and 4afe wiring.... using MSD 6al, msd blaster 2 coil, msd 8910 eis tach adapter, larger spark plug wires, 4afe intake, sard fuel pressure regulator, fuel pressure gauge...
it sounds pretty good..... if you're ever on MSN or aim you can contact me and i have a couple clips (poor clips) of inside my car...
Just going off what you said.. You want to make it louder.. so go to autozone get a big ass muffler and put it on. Save yourself a lot of money, you are just flushing your money away by buying ANYTHING from Pacesetter

pacesetter makes decent parts...... but the main problem with them (and why they're cheap) is that they don't always line up 100% like they should (like oem parts would)..... but even my KBD header needed a bit of grinding to fit

Heh.. I headers I got offa eBay kick ass.. I paid 140+s/h for the headers and downpipe.. and the things are solid metal.. my machinist was complimenting them for how well they were made. 4-2-1's.
