Hi, this seems obvious, but I searched all over the net and this forum and didn't find anything.
To install a normal aftermarket stereo into an AE92 central opening, what do I need? some dash kit I suppose? Is there anything to cover up this big hole? Toyota makes anything?
I just did this on mine & have done the same on the other cars that I have owned. It's fairly straight forward in this case.
Things you need..
- 2DIN dash kit
- Wiring harness adapter (Highly recommended, but optional)
- Tools & supplies for cutting & splicing.
I'd get the dash kit from an audio install place, since they're higher quality than the canadian tire, walmart, etc, but those work fine too. Try to find a kit that isn't universal, but rather is model specific. In doing so, you'll have an easier time putting the adapter together.
The double din kit I bought has a storage space under the head unit and a fitting to attach the factory cup holders, so it doesn't look cheap, or look like it has waisted space.
If you buy the adapter for the harness, just splice the identical wire colors together and then plug it in. If you don't buy it, PM me & I'll try to dig up the proper color chart for matching which wire goes where.

You don't actually need a dash kit. Just hit up the junkyard and find a single DIN pocket from another car. (I pulled mine from an AE86 SR5). Then just use the factory brackets from the OEM radio.
For a toyota is very simple take the 2 brackets that come on the OEM stereo off and screw them to the new stereo and that's it.. the brackets should screw back onto the dashboard just like they did before. No need to buy no double din dashkits or shit like that... the only thing I can see worth buying is a wire kit for Toyotas.. other than that all you need is a screwdriver. you can get the wire kits from Walmart or Canadian tire.
I think he said he had an '89 GT-S. I know the AE92 Corolla sedans all have 1 DIN sized radios, but what about the GTS, am I right that these all came with 2 DIN radios? That's what I thought, but someone I talked to today said differently.
As per that comment from that black dude with the afro pointing a gun at me. Yes I do speak it, very well infact considering it's my first language. The guy I was directing that post to is on toyodori.com (french toyota site), so If that message was directed to everyone instead of just one person, you betcha I'm going to speak english, lol!
What movie is that guy from anyway, he looks familiar?

ok, thing is, I don't have stock OEM 2din radio, so no brackets to screw off. I'll just go and get some nice din kit from some stereo place around here.
Oracle, I'm from St-Eustache, Silver GTS with something special under the hood.
