Rim questions (not the regular nu b ?'s)

I know that on a 02 corolla the bolt patter ins 4x100. 4 obviously is how many bolts there are (right?) but what about the 100??? How are these numbers interperted in units of measurments??

Also whats the offset of a 02. I know offset is the offseting of the hub area from the center of the rim. Right?? How are these numbers measured??

Im planing to drop an 02 with teins and putting white 17" motegi mr7's but what offset should i be looking for with a drop. Does the drop affect the offset choice or should i just go with stock offset numbers.

Last but not least is 17" with a stock tire height to large and should i drop down to 16"??? Also what comboinations should i stay away from or consider concerning Tein's S tech and H tech springs in conjunction with either 16" or 17" rims with stock tire height.

I know i have a good amount of nu b questions but i have searched the forums about all of these questions and really didnt find the exact and specific info i was looking for especially when it came to the numbers.

much thanks to ALL in advanced.

(is there a sticker or something i can by with this sights logo on it as i wouldnt mind having one on a front pannel. This forum has been so helpfull)

the "100" is measured in MM, it is the spacing between studs.

When looking for an aftermarket wheel, I'm sure you can get away with anything near a 40 mm Offset. I don't own a '02, but the stock offset should be high 30's to low 40's.

You'd want to keep the overall diameter of the wheel the same, or very close to if you want to keep an accurate speedometer. So let's say that your current tires are 27 inches across, you'd want to find a 17" tire that is close to that diameter.

I'd be more concerned with the wheel width. On my '91 corolla, I have a 7'' wide mag with a 40mm offset. This fits, but I wouldn't go bigger than that. You can play with the offset to run wider wheels, but why bother. 7" is wide enough.

I'll leave the rest of the questions for the newer Corolla owners.

As for the sticker, you can get one made up at your local automotive sticker place for a few bucks. To find the closest place to you, pick out the ricer with the most stickers on his car & follow him (No flaming intended)

Re: Rim questions (not the regular nu b ?'s)

the "100" is the distance between studs or holes. its usually pcd100 for newer cars (like yours). older cars usually have pcd114.

not so sure about the offset though...

i'm not so sure about the stock wheel size in your area, but you shouldn't have any problems fitting 17" rims (i've seen some cars fitted with 18's). however, the important thing to note is the overall diameter of your stock wheel... so if you change to bigger wheels, your tires have a smaller wall height (i.e. stock is 14" with 185/65/R14 tires... sizing up to 15" wheels would 195/55/R15 tires have very little effect on the overall wheel diameter. try visiting www.tirerack.com for recommended tire sizes depending on the rim diameter of your choice.

hope this helps.

Tire offset is also explained with a nice diagram on tirerack.com.

I think the stock offset on our Generation (01-02 is Gen8.5) is +35. You should be able to run 17s.

i have some 15' rims with 195/50/15 tires. .41 offset it still rubs..

the 16' TRD rims for the corolla got a +47 offset and it's perfect fit

Humm. So if i where to run 17" rims with 205/40-17 tires what kind of offset would i need on the rim so that i dont have any tire rub when turning?

I did search for offset and found stuff on 15/16" but nothing on 17". Is this because with 17" and a 205/40-17 tire i would have to do mods on the wheel well? How close does the height of a 205/40-17 come to that of a stock 185/65-14?

Another very nu b question has to do with + and - offset. Say for example the stock offset of a car 45 if i get a rim with an offset of 50 does that move the rim farther out from the car or does it bring it closer in and by how much? Farther out by 5mm rite??

Concerning the second of three numbers in tire code what does it represent where from the tire/rim is it measured from? (185/65-14 the 65?)

Thanks again for all the help

the 100mm is the diameter of the circle the wheel studs make...... obiviously if u measure a 5x100mm car the studs are not gonna be the same distance apart then the 4x100mm.

oh a 4 lug hub, u measure this from the center of one stud to the center of the one across from it.

5 lugs u can't measure like that

exactly what i was looking for. I borwsed throught that sight and some how couldnt find all of this.

After reading it seems that this place has a pretty good idea of what will and wont fit cars. They advise me to use 205/40 with 17". Is it safe to assume that it will fit?

Would these fit?

I will be getting a 96 Camry this summer and want to put on some new rims and tires. The rims that I really like are 18x8 5-114.3 with a 35 offset and do not come in a smaller size. After researching from sites like Discounttires and tirerack, the rims I want (which they do not carry) seems like they would fit. Since they listed different rims that would fit my Camry with the exact same specifics of the one's I want to get. My question is can I put on tires that are 225/40/18 when those sites recommend I get 215/40/18 instead? I just wanted to know if i could go with the slightly larger width with those size rims without rubbing or any other problems. Thanks to anyone who can answer.

I had 17"s on my 98

Like the title says, I had 205/40/17's on my 98 corolla, they didnt really fit the back but the front wasnt bad. I had to cut the lip on the back wheel wells to prevent rubbing but the front seemed fine. If I hit a bump hard enough or took a turn fast enough I could still manage to make the front rub and the back on the big bumps. Now my shocks were probably the shitts but even if I had the front turned hard over they would hit on the inside. I had the ADR SZ1 17" rims on the car, they were 17x7 and had a .40 offset. Now I was and still probably am a total newb when it comes to wheel sizing but maybe if the offset was changed they would fit a bit better. I have to look further into this because I am planning on putting new rims and tires on my 02 Corolla in a month or so, might drop down to a 16 or ever 15 because I am lowering the car so I dont want to have to worry about the tires rubbing.
