Intake cam shaft 4af

I hear that I can get more low end power out of my 4A-F if I advance the in take cam shaft one tooth. Is that true and if it is is it safe to do so.

I'd like more info in this. I'm assuming it an be applied to the 4age, with similar results? If you advance the intake cam for a tad for some more bottom end grunt, it would take some power off at the top, correct? If so, is it noticable?

I thought about doing this when I do my timing belt.

Well, in honesty I can't say I noticed it taking any HP production out of the top RPM band.. BUT I am sure it kills your top speed.. To get more on the down low.. you gotta lose some of your high, nigga's! lol

And I ain't sure about the 4AGE.. I'm sure it is the same thing. You could just use adjustable cam gears and get a lot more fine tuning.. With advancing the intake cam 1 tooth.. it isn't an exact number about how many degree's you just advanced.. ya know.. With adjustable cam gears on the 4age you could adjust it really little or a medium amount.. etc.. to find that best mix between top speed and acceleration.

Remember, it's a strong mid-range that wins the race.. You can accelerate really fast 0-60 but be slow as hell to get to 80 and lose it because the other guy had a kick ass top end.. It's best to have a strong pull through the whole band .. or if most of your races are about the top speed then adjust to get the highest speed.. yea know. I found most of my silly little straight line street races were won with killer acceleration on my 4AF. It makes an even larger difference if you have longer duration cams to match and a better carb setup

Ok I sort of drunk right now but if I count the number of teeth on the cam shaft then divide that number buy 360 which is the degrees of a full circle will I get the degree's I just changed
So for example say I count 200 teeth then I divide 360 by 200 and get 1.8 I think that’s right is that my degree’s I just changed 1.8 degree’s this is more a math subject than car
And what number of degrees would be extreme to advance the intake cam shaft 4 degrees 10 degrees?
Oh and is there any benefit to changing the exhaust cam (like not blowing the engine)
Thanks to all for your help

Well, I've been told that the teeth counting and dividing by 360 methode doesn't apply here. I don't know if it does or not. Nor do I really care.

If you did divide it though you would come out with like 7 degree or some shit, I forget.

I wouldn't advance over 1 tooth, 2 is pretty far and you'll start to lose top speed pretty harshly. You could just retard the exhaust cam 1 tooth to get the same effect. Don't retard the intake cam! Not even 1 tooth.. You'll get such HORRIBLE low end power you'll think a 10hp lawn mower engine is in your bay. But as the RPM's rise it'll pick up.. and I'm sure you would get a pretty good top speed from it.

Just put your intake cam 1 tooth ahead of the exhaust cam.. on the 4AF you would have to rotate the intake cam CCW.. make sure you set TDC and the cams are lined up and all that shit. It'll take like 10 minutes to do it.
