7AFE Swap :)

Swapping a 7AFE 1.8 into my AE92 SR5 coupe.. The project is coming along quite fine now.. I got a wiring hell coming up though. Anyone here done this swap before and could give me some info or tips on the whole wiring job? I have the complete engine harness and the front harness, battery fuseable link box and the under-the-hood fuse box...

Here is a pic of my intake setup, using those quad carbs as throttle bodies.. sticking with the stock fuel injection.. and then I will eventually be using the carbs to inject water.. So once again, using the carbs now strictly as throttle bodies.. then I will be pumping water into the float bowls.. for a water injection system.. smart or what?

Looks badass, thats for sure.. but will your hood close with them on that position? plus what are you gonna do with the slides?

nothin.. slides are stayin.. ain't no reason to remove em.. and no, hood won't close. the 7AFE sits higher because it is a long block, but not enough to interfere with the hood or something. But the throttles definitly will hit the hood.. so I am cutting the hood out and doing a reverse drop vent.. so air flows right into them.. and then putting a small hood scoop over the carbs to protect them from rain and shit.. The hood scoop will run down the drop vent most of the way to keep rain out.

and what are you going to do about a TPS? the 7a-fe uses a potentiometer style (changes every time the throttle body moves and sends the signal to the ecu so it can change any/all settings needed) and the 4a-fe (or 4a-f, the carbs being used at intake manifolds) uses a switch style (i'm assuming, since a 4a-fe up until 93'ish used a switch style).... the wiring is different on those and a pot style will run bad w/o the TPS (i'm running w/o one because i did have issues, but my ecu is just a switch style, so it thinks it's always just at cruise speeds.... not a big deal on my side)...

How is that going to keep the rain out when you are driving into the rain at speed If the air will flow right into the carbs, won't the rain also?

And are you running any kind of air filter?

Nah, rain water will run down the hood (very little) and it will stop at a lip I am bending up.. and drain off from there.. and as I said.. I'm doing water injection later on, so getting water into the cylinders isn't bad.

Toyotaspeed, I ain't no idiot.. I go the complete 7afe wiring harnesses and ECU... and I set the TPS up on the carbs, check it out

You can see the TPS right there by the oil cap.. I'll just have to cut and extend the TPS wires is all.. like you said it is a 4 wire variable resistor type TPS... which kicks ass cuz it'll tie in good with my S-AFC II then real nice. I put my 4AF power steering pump on with some bracket modification.. nothin big.. Unfortunately, I didn't want to go through the hassle of doing a custom alternator setup, so I could still use a 4A alternator.. so I got a 7A alternator but I'll need to get a 7A A/C Comp now too.. Which kinda makes me wanna do the custom work .. I don't particularly like how the 7A's alternator mounts upside down.
I'll probably just trade my 4A A/C comp for a 7A A/C comp or something.. although I ain't worried bout it right now.. ain't hot enough for that yet. I might just do the bracket mod.. save it for a rainy day.

Talking

Punisher, who knows... if I cant get my keihins to settle up.. I might go EFI, except that I'd cut off the last part of the carbs, so that I'd have just the throttle plate and use that for the TPS and then use maybe a bosch system taken from a mercedes to supply the fuel.

alright.... i was just asking

also... make sure you have some sort of cover to cover up the distributor.... my roommate went through a $300 distributor (which has everything internal like a 4/7a-fe dizzy) when water went into his reverse drop vent

Well, the drop won't be near the dizzy.. Like it will be, but the sides of the drop will be welded up .. so no way for water to get to the dizzy.. That plus I will have a drainage system for the water to work it's way down once it gets to the lip.. the actual opening is just gonna be enough to supply the carbs with air..

ROFL.. yea to much water isn't good.. specially on electrical shit.. but the amount of water that will be coming down will be pretty small and it won't be an issue.

Wait...i'm confused...you're gonna use fuel injection for the gasoline...but use the carbs as a water injection system?
