new owner of broken 89 gts

I got my gts with 4age engine recently from a friend who moved overseas, and its not in the best condition. I think the engine was changed before and replaced with a japanese one, but I don't know how to tell. I'm considering getting a new engine and have some questions like: where is the best place to look, should I get japanese engine, how would I convert it, and other questions I hope someone can answere

Whats wrong with the engine??? before making any action, first start to know what 4AGE is about. learn the 2 different types of 4AGE 16V.

goto these site.
www.club4ag.com

and www.ae92gts.com

before converting any engine in your car, know what is available for you out there.

yeah... but in reality... there are 3 versions of the 16v

the bigport bluetop, bigport redtop, and the smallport (all redtop)

but for ae92 purposes, yeah there's 2 16V's

well first off, the car has 250,000 miles on it

second, I made the mistake of letting my sister borrow it, and she drove it without water, which is when all the problems such as...not starting happened. Extreme loss of compression; when it did start (which it no longer attempts) it would shut off unless the gas peddle was continuously pressed. My inexperienced guess would be loose rod bearings, bent valve, cracked head gasket, or all of the above and more. I'm in college, broke, limited on time, and can't afford to even tow it. Replacement engine seems best choice. but since I think the engine was replaced and modified, I don't know whether to turn to Japan or America for a replacement. How can I tell if the car has been refitted for a japanese engine?

You can’t afford to tow it, but you can afford to get a replacement engine? Did I miss something?

an exageration

where I am it would cost about $200 to tow to the closest shop. I'm not lookin' for a brand new engine, just one I can rely on. I wouldn't mind a powerful one though; as long as I can trust it, I'll work for it.

the japanese engine will have no AFM. it uses a map sensor that i dont kno where is located, but pretty much look for a big metal/black plastic lookin box coming off the intake. If you have one that means the engine's a usdm.

If your scared that its just there for the hell of being there, then try disconnecting the plug off it to see if the car stops working, if it does then its actually using it and it has to be usdm. --> whoops, u said your motors not running

a few more questions

I haven't got a chance to check if it is japanese or not, but which is considered better? what about a 4agze, would that fit instead of a 4age, and is it worth it? what are the cost of squeezing it in?
