Cam & shim question.

I've been doing some searching on the subject, but haven't really found what I needed to know.

Most of the sources I have found deal with the MAP cars, and wouldn't recommended going past a 264* duration.

Can anyone with experience on a high comp, 4age, be able to tell me what duration is around the limit for an AFM computer to handle (Not that I want to stress the limit with cams, but I'm just curious)? I've read everywhere from 272* to 304*. The head will get a moderate port & polish this summer.

Also, what should I limit the lift to? The engine will be getting new factory springs, wich I believe can take up to an 8.5 mm lift correct?

Do the cam companies ship their cams with shims, Or do I have to go through that whole ordeal that I went through with my SHO? The one good thing about that car is that the local Yamaha dealer was able to supply the shims I needed

Worst case scenario, shim-wise, does toyota still have 'em?

Lastly, regrind Vs. Web cams Vs. Others? What's your preference?

272 @ 8.3mm lift would be the absolute max that a OEM ECU can handle.

There's no way stock ECU can handle 304 duration

From what I've read on various Toyota forums, it seems for a mild setup, Web cams are the way to go. They are not as expensive as TRD or HKS, but are every bit as effective. As long as they are made from new billets, you should be fine.

Thanks,

Where is a good source for shims? When I was in the SHO world, we were able to flip shims to get things back into spec, is this possible on the 4age? Does anyone have a page where I could find proper clearances?

Very much appreciated!
