Northridge, California? That's where I am.

Anyway, I'm putting 17s on later this month. I've seen Corollas with 19s.

spacers??

You don't need spacers, just the proper off-set.

I have 5+ guys with 17s on 03+ Corollas in my club and several off them are running Hotchkis springs and I have not heard of rubbing problems except with the guy who is running 18s...
You can cut/roll your fenders to get rid of mild rubbing.

If you guys are in Cali check out our site and maybe post your questions in the forum there: http://www.ncfour.com

Here is our President's car running Hotchkis and 17s:

my rubs and i have 215/40 or 45/17 tires with hotchkis springs.

but.. like chris said, as long as your offset is correct, you won't have any rub problems.

Yea spacers seem like the wrong way to go. Generally, spacers are just so that the rims clear the brakes.
