Smile how often do you replace/clean your air filter

i have never replaced my air filter. and its only been above 14,000 with the original oem filter. so when do i need to replace the filter? cus i have heard that it should be every year or 15,000

if so then im thinking of buying a K&N FilterCharger® replacement filter, its reusable and k&n website says that it only needs to be cleaned every 50,000 miles. my question about the cleaning is whats with oil'ing it? and is it really necessary to buy the cleaning kit.

thanks...

#1, replace your air filter when it starts to look dirty. (you have to take it out of the airbox and look at the bottom) if it is just a little dusty, it's fine, when it starts to get black then change it.

#2, the oil aids in the filtration by trapping particulates I believe, but I'm not sure

#3, yes you have to buy the K&N filter cleaning kit to clean the filter, you can't just take it to the laundry mat.
I recomend following K&N's instructions to maintain their filter if you get one.

Toyota told my dad on his 01 Tacoma to change it every 30k miles. What does Toyota recommend on the air filter? I get my oil changed at the dealership once a month and they haven't said anything. I'm at 71k miles now... I don't know if it's been changed in the past but I'm certain it has to have been.
