Unhappy Still getting around 20 mpg

Hi,

I have been watching my mileage for a while and I am still gettiing only 20mpg.

I have decided to try 3 things,

1) Get the fuel injectors cleaned

2) Change O2 sensor

3) Remove the catalytic converter
(there are no emissions laws here in Honduras)
It might be clogged and by removing it I might get a bit more power I think.
I know that removing the Cat is a bit drastic but I am running out of choices.

In dec/jan I changed the sparkplugs and cables, air filter and pcv valve. What should I check.

The engine runs fine although it is a bit sluggish when accelerating hard. They told me to get the fuel injectors cleaned. Would this make any difference? Would a dirty fuel injector cause excessive fuel consumption?

MAF sensor is the "boss" of the fuel injection system. If it breaks , the fuel consumption goes up. Don't be a parts changer...pull those codes and trace em down.

Well i called this EFI place and told them about my problem. he said that they could clean the injectos but he was not sure that it would solve the problem.

But then he said that 20mpg is the normal minimum for this car and that I should not consider it abnormal fuel comsumption.
Here I stopped paying attention to him and politely ended the conversation.

I will check into the MAF sensor. I dont get any check engine light, could i still have codes in the system?
