05' xrs corolla test drive what i think.

I have already test drove a corolla xrs. I think it is pretty balanced a knock off celica. But does not have the power the celica has. probly from weight and top rpm outputs. We raced a civic si 00" with intake header exaust. gutted cat, and lost to him by two car lengths. they were both good dragers to my knowlage. But the car is responsive enough for what it is. price is quite nice about 19,000 or if you get the hook up 16,000-17,000. very afordable. id say it is a tad slower than the 00' civic SI but the car is very balanced and has pretty nutruel handleing for a stocker, with suv height still of course. the engine still feels the same as it did in the celica mabe rev a little slower. tranny is still like the celica no changes felt when driving. 2nd gear in corner is too much power 3rd gear not enough power so it need improvement. maybe they should put a 4age 20v in it huh guys that will benifit us, swap/parts wise. no really i think they should re develope a 1.6 that is nice and revy. but i herd they might be using the camrys 2.4 litre block on a newly designed GE head. so if it does not make 200hp or more i will be disapionted that toyota went soo big to gain so little. well thats all i have to say.

I'd like to see a supercharged one go up against the XRS and see what happens.

ToyRollaS I think the XRS would not stand a chance. driving it even with toyota claiming they changed the powerband it still has to wind up some like the celica. If you ask me the car is heavyier than the celica. It is however a good car for the price. but i do not think it would be able to beat a 2nd or 3rd gen 4agze. The car does have nice lexus like dash lites rpm/speed/gas ect. the seats hold you in more but nothing like on ae92 gts models. Toyota made a right move but forgot to include a two door model with super struts lol.

^By supercharged I belive he meant an 02-03 Corolla with the TRD Supercharger. Someone on VVT-i.net has 14.8 Timeslip with a Manual Supercharged 03

well... i believe XRS will not have a chance beating a manual SC corolla S/LE/CE, cuz i have a automatic SC S and i beat a manual 92 GSR few weeks ago which has 160hp B18C Vtec motor by about one car length..

sorry sorry. well it is Na. i bet with the blitz supercharger on the XRS it would be a very wild ride with suspension upgrades of course. the 2zz-ge is pretty okay but nothing too reliable still has some bugs in it the tranny and the engine both. but I belive when toyota sorts it out it will be one wild engine for generations to come. I guess however did it made a good choice to supercharge the 1zz-fe. Still this car is pretty damn balanced for a sports saden that actually has a perfromance orianted engine. chris S are you going to get a XRS or swap in a 2zz-GE?

I am not planning to ever trade in my car. I bought it brand new in November of 2000 (it's a 2001) and I'm still paying it off. I got it because it has great gas mileage and it's very reliable. Plus I liked the performance it offered as compared to it's gas mileage.
I am slowly modding it but I will keep my 1zz in there. I might go forced induction somewhere far down the line if I get a hybrid as my main vehicle.

hey rdyzz,

do you remember if the XRS has the 60/40 fold down rear seats? the toyota website lists it as not available for the XRS. this seems kinda weird since all the other models have it, unless they have a rear brace behind the seats like the evo. kinda sucks if it really doesn't have it though.

what i meant about the xrs acceleration is that the Lif t does not kick in till 7,000 rpms and it redlines at 8100-8200. Why does toyota make it take the lift at such a high rpm . how can the engine be expected to have high outputs? the only GE engine yet and toyota already has bugs in it. I wonder if its going to be an evolutionary engine like the ones past?

rcx_sk i'll check and get back to you on monday. i'll tell you then because so far i did not really check for the features only ther performance.

Unfortunately...The 05 XRS does not have folding seats (60/40 or otherwise). It's a solid seat. Engineers felt this was necessary to reinforce chassis rigidity in harder cornering.

Now I fully expected that they'd have a crossbar beam in the trunk right behind the seat...but that's not the case. It looks like a normal seat. So I fully expect that someone will mod this and report back on the impact to their vehicle.

Personally I'd love to mod this item but would need a way to reinforce the chassis.
