Question steeringwheel shakes w/ wheels on potholes

I just noticed today after I drove a sienna van and then my 01 corolla that my steering wheel moves with the wheels when I hit any potholes/dips/humps.

I mean like with a sienna van when I went over a pothole the steering wheels doesn’t even respond its just strait, but with my corolla, with the same pothole, the steering wheel moves/shakes a little when the car goes over a it.

Is this common with a corolla or is it just me?
Should I worry about it or is it ok.

its common with smaller wheels/tires anyways.. whats your corolla riding on.. 175/65-14 and the Sienna probably on 205/70-15 's probably maybe even 16's ( I think the new siennas have 16's and optional 17's) plus it doesn't help that the suspension on vans is made to make you feel like you just "flew" over a bumps.

BUT it wouldn't hurt to check on your alignment and even the pressure on your tires either. One of your tires could be low.

Has always happened to me as well. I put 205's on and it happens less but is still there. I also get a interesting pulling sensation when I take off from the line it litterly feels like the car was pulling to the left then right as each wheel digs in. That can be a bit freaky if your not familar with it.

knightbr : That's called Torque-Steer man. Happens with all FWD cars.
Try turning the wheel all the way over in a V6 Camry then flooring it, you will feel that Torque-steer
