Question Some questions about 90 sr-5

Hi all

I just got my sr-5 last week. it's an old car but good enough for me, now i'm learning about it to get in love with it . I have some problems hope some1 can help me diagnostic (well I'm a newbie when talking about car).

First, When I make a turn (to the right) the rpm just seem to stay low for a second or two despire i hit the gas hard or not. I feel the car jugling and then it kinda jump forward. Sometime when i hit gas too hard the engine just stall and turn off. I have to rastart again. That doesn't happen when i make a left turn.

Second, the problem just happen today after i take out the air filter to check(not when i bougt the car), The engine when idle or at stop sign just saking I mean rumble and I feel the vibration. It just like 1..1...12345

Third, When I hit accelerate from 0 to 40 it just so slowww And the rpm go over 3000 too. After 40 the car just get a boot and move way faster.

Those are all problem right now hope I have some way lead to problems solving . Oh I read the forum and think the first 1 because Dirty Air filter and fuel filter. i'm gonna check and change them tomorrow to see if poblem solve. But the second and third I need your help. oh and any recomend garage in Toronto area?

Thank you all

Hey rofl, welcome to the AE92 (Body style of your car) family first of all. I myself own a 1990 SR5 (check out my website with the www button under this post if you'd like).

Now, the RPM dropping on the turn is normal if you're not stepping on the gas because the steering belt is running which take away a bit of power from the engine.

As far as acceleration, I would recommed you check you spark plugs, Distributor cap and wires. If you haven't replaced them since you bought the car, then you should. And as an experience person in this matter, take my advice and don't buy the kit that Canadian Tire sells because they are really bad.

Your air filter could cause a delay in acceleration as well, so if it's dirty then you can replace that yourself.

Which area in Toronto do you live in?

I brought my car to a garage neear my work place. Holy sh*t when mechanic guy take out spark plug, parts felt off every where That explain the rumble vibration i feel and stalling when make a turn. And rotor parts have to be chanve too. Also he said about "purge a system" I understand it like cleaning the whole system. So at last he changed cap, wires, plugs, rotor and done a purge. All of those cost me almost 400 I don't know I got rip off or not but just glad that the car are better now. Slowness in pickup speed not fix yet. Any recommend? And garage too. I need a good and cheap garage hehehe

To Xenon: I went in your website and man your car amaze me . At first I just want to get used car for work. But now I will just keep this baby and start learning about car. Hope once day I could tranform my car to yours stage now Oh i live near downtown. Which part of toronto are you?

yeah... you got ripped off (sorry bud).... cap & wires are sold together (around $50 or less) for a 4a-fe.... rotor's are like $5 max, plugs (for bosch platinums) are $2 a piece = $8.... so.. looks like you got $63 in parts....
