Problem with 94 Corolla

I have a problem with my 94 Corolla. When I push the gas in and take my foot completely off the clutch and take it to roughly 4000 rpm's, or anything more than 2000-3000, the car does not accelerate. It happens in any gear. It just started happening today. I can still drive it, but I have to barely give it gas, and let off the clutch completely to make it go. I checked all the sensors and wires, and they all look fine. All the fluids are at fine levels. I just put a short ram air intake in the other day, this may be the source of the problem. But it worked fine with the intake on there for a week or two. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Could it be a clutch problem? Slippage? Any burning smells?

I made sure I rehooked up the air sensor. That was the first thing I checked, and it looked fine. There was no burning smell, but I'm guessing that it is the clutch because I can't find anything else wrong with it. Is it ok if I drive on it for a while, or will it mess anything up? Thanks for the help.

It's been my experience that if the clutch is slipping, thing will deteriorate rapidly - ultimately to the point where the clutch won't engage the wheels at all. Then you call a tow truck. Will it mess anything else up? I dunno. I doubt it. It is my understanding that the clutch friction plate is like brake pads in that it's designed to wear. On the brighter side, perhaps a clutch replacement is not necessary, just an adjustment.

Thanks for the info. I'm almost certain it's the clutch, but there is no smell coming from it. How much do you think a shop would charge to put a new one in and how long do you think it would take? I'm not sure if I have enough money for it or if I need to wait, so any response would be helpful. Thanks again!

Well, when the clutch went on my Honda Civic back in '92ish, I brought it to a non-dealer mechanic and had it replaced for about $400. Took a day. I dropped it in the morning and picked it up in the afternoon.

I'm not sure how much things have changed since then.

Cluthes can be preyy expensive to replace whaen compared to how much the part costs. You have to drop the tranny to get at it.
Ont hat note, have the throw-out bearing replaced while you are at it, maybe get a lightned flywheel too
