oil leak

I've known I've had an oil leak for a while and I think I found the culprit or rather one of the culprits. It seems that my oil cap no longer serves it's purpose in holding oil in. It seems to be letting the oil out on top of my engine. One one occasion I saw kep picking up the scent to burning oil and found that there was smoke comming from under my hood yet my oil pressure and engine temp guages were reading the car was fine.

So I'll try swaping oil caps with my spare engine and hope that works. But I'm wondering what kind of damage the oil would do if it was leaking down to the spark plugs. Because some days my car will be able to drive nice and fast while other days it acts up for no apparent reason and I was wondering if that might have been why.

If the oil leak will foul or coat the ceramic insulator on your spark plug tip, misfires may result. Eventually your spark plug will malfunction.
