Does anyone know what is the function of each of the wires on the radio of a 1998 Corolla AM/FM Cassette or where I could get this info.

I am installing a new radio and would like to use existing wires

Thx
Papa

Spend the $15 and get yourself a wire harness adapter...

this way you don't have to cut up your factory harness....
and you can do all the wiring ourside of the car, so much easier and makes for a better install!!

No matter what you do you still will have to join bear wires at some point. Also I didn't ask about a wiring harness, I know of these things and just add more wires to the radio compartment. What I do is solder my connections then use heat shrink tubing to encase my solder connectors. I have found a web page that has almost all makes and models radio wiring schematics at http://www.installdr.com

Thx
Papa

I would highly reccomend getting the adaptor. The harness adaptor sometimes has wires on it, but you just attach those wires to the wires on the harness that came with the deck. If you'd like you can then heatshrink those connections. DO NOT start cutting wires unless you like making a mess of things. the PO of my car put in an aftermarket deck, and cut the wires. When it came time for me to swap in a CD player, I pretty much had to re-wire the whole system.

the harness basically answers all ur questions....don't need to cut or splice anything except for the power and/or ground....everything else stays stock.

for 10-15 bucks....that's cheap.

no you don't need to cut anything.. all you need to do is match the wires FROM the aftermarket radio TO the wires on the harness adapter and cover them with electrical tape, THEN you plug the adapter to the Toyota harness that unplugs FROM the back of your radio and you're done. That's it.

If you don't wanna do any matching, you can spend a few more dollars and go for specific brand to car adaptors.. you can get Kenwood to Toyota, JVC to Toyota, Sony to Toyota, etc.. then all you do is plug one side on the Toyota harness, and the other side on your stereo and done.
