Then again, so do $30 Toyota pads.... And that's after I turned the rotors!

That I did, and I had the rotors turned when the pads were installed. The brakes on our LS400 are 10x worse... they make excruciating noises in reverse... The cheap aftermarket pads that came with my rebuilt rear brake calipers are perfectly quiet though... Problem is, these Toyota brake pads are wearing so slowly that it's going to be a loooong time before I can justify their replacement.

I say Toyota OEM pads are teh best way to go. On my Corolla the OEM organic pads have never made one little squeek.
The cheap-ass lifetime warranty ones I got from Kragen sueeled like a bitch, I got rid of those before they even wore down.
The Semi-metallic KVR performance pads I got stop almost the same as OEM but they don't fade under repeated breaking like OEM can, but they squeek on and off depending on conditions.
After trying these three I am going back to OEM for a while.
