Temperature Gauge Not working

I own a 1995 Toyota Corolla with the 1.8L engine. Recently the Temperature gauge stopped working. The guys at my dealership recommended replacing the temp sensor on the engine so I did. The gauge still doen't work!! It seems to maybe move 1/8" or so if at all. Does anyone know what else it could be??
The eletric fan seems to come on and off periodically like it supposed to.

You didn't wrap the new temp. sending unit's threads with sealant , did you? That sender needs good contact with the block to work correctly.
