Question torque plate

I've heard of torque plates before, but I have no idea what the concept behind them is. What do they do? And if they're good, who makes them for an '81 Corolla 1.8?

The real versin of a torque plate is usually bolted to the front of the block on a V8 drag car and the other ends bolt or weld to the frame ...
for rigidity and faster times in 1/4 mile as you don't lose 3/10 to the motor twisting and THEN giving power to the wheels.
it also keeps the motor in the engine bay when it grenades at 28lbs of boost and a 200 shot o nitro
