Nokya 9006 Lamps

I'm wondering if anyone can give me some advice on headlamp selection. Today I picked up a set of Nokya 9006's for my 2005 Corolla. At the last minute when I was at the store I noticed that there were two versions of the 9600's: a Stage-I 70W "Stock Wattage" version; and a Stage-II 100W "High Wattage" version.

The guy told me that the 100W version was better and brighter so I picked those up and installed them. But I'm beginning to be concerned about causing some damage since I "think" that the 70W version is similar to stock.

I did some reading and found that the 100W version should use the Nokya wiring harness.

Is this really necessary? Is there some danger to using the 100W version with the stock Toyota harness?

Incidentally...when I looked on the bulb casing I noticed it actually said 80W so something tells me these aint' legit Nokya's anyways.

Bummer.

You might end up frying your wires since they're only designed to carry 55-70W of power. Try picking up a wire upgrade kit and see how that works, they usually connect straight to the battery and the wires are very thick.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. That's what I've been reading elsewhere.

Dang I should have hesitated when I saw the differences. Too eager to change the bulbs I guess.

You mean they won't output much light or much heat? I guess the issue I'm concerned about it heat as replacing a wiring harness and/or headlight assembly (due to melting) is hardly worth a $40 set of bulbs.

They will burn your stock harnesses, mine got burned, so I went and got the Stage 1. But I guess the reason why mine burned is because i drive even durning the daytime with my lights on so they were on constantly, but yeah my harnesses were fried....

Ok thanks - I'm gonna toss these one's - Dang I was foolish.

Since I'm on the subject, looking at PIAA's I noticed that they always include 2 ratings. EG: 51W=115W

I don't quite understand this rating system when I "believe" the harness can handle 50-70W.

LOL! Just an update for those who care. I love learning via the school of hard knocks.

So I tried Nokya's. They're a bit expensive @ $45 but a nice white colour...but unfortunately I tried one's with too high a wattage (StageII-100W) and pulled them within 30 min. (anyone who want's them let me know because they're paperweights).

So I thought...heck let's try these Sylvania SilverStars I've heard about. Everyone seems to like them.

Well...yeah they're brighter alright. I can't tell the difference between DRL and regular beams. But they're still yellowish.

After these SilverStars cack next year, I'll try the Nokya Stage-I's or PIAA's...unless HID's drop further in price (or become DOT illegal).

I had those Nokya 9006 bulbs in my highlander but they only lasted a year after 1 bulb blew out. I have the Arctic white or sumtin like that whick was like 80-100w?? but I was really happy with them.. They did look like HID's but less the extreme brightness. Most cars would flash me at night with their highbeams if I was passing them...

If you were going to put these kind of lights in your car, change the wiring harnesses... This is important or you will FRY the wiring and u will spen big$$ replacing teh units
