Corolla 1992 - Mixing Red and Green coolants

Hello,

Is it okay if you mix toyota red and green coolants in a 1992 toyota corolla ?

I see different opinions in many different forums.

Toyota says a big NO, majority of others say its okay.

My car had green coolant and they added RED coolant by mistake.

Thanks.

Red (Toyota), green (generic), orange (General Motors' Dex-Cool), and even blue (Chrysler) I believe will mix. Just don't expect them to run the full service life, as they can lose some of their rust/corrosion inhibiting properties when mixed. The different types won't react with each other and blow anything up, so don't worry about that. I switched my car to Dex-Cool shortly after getting it, and my coolant has stayed the same orange for the past two years. Plus, Dex-Cool is rated for a 5 year/150,000 mile service life...

If you mix the Toyota red with regular green coolant you're changing the composition of the coolant itself and probably deminishing the cooling abilities of the red coolant.

Think of it as mixing sugar and salt in your coffee... would you do it??
