Toyota Variable Induction System. On the large port 4ages, there are butterfly valves (similiar to the throttle body) in between the intake manifold and the head. when closed at low RPM, they let a small amopunt of air in to keep the velocity high for low end torque. At high RPM, they open up so large amounts of air can get in to feed the motor's need to make all that good high end power.

Ahhh, there's more than meets the eye with TVIS. Think of it. Bigger cams will run more smoothly with a TVIS engine on idle and low rpm than, let's say a red top.

um, why say you don't want low end torque?! what do you think gets you off the line? torque is just as important as HP..... if you don't have enough torque, you'll be getting off the line really slowly.....
