Can someone please tell me what that thing is that is circled in the red? I see it on my 4A-GE, and people put the cone filters on the other side of them... but I've also seen 4A-GE's where that thing is completely removed and there's just tubing and the cone filter. Please tell me what it is!

Hey... but please answer this question. What is it really (I've got two conflicting opinions)... and also, what does it do? I have this magazine with a Levin in it... and it is removed... without a doubt. So please explain the intricacies to me! Thanks!

did that levin have carbs?

it is an
AIR
FLOW
METER

without it, your car stalls, SIMPLE.

it meters the amount of air flowing into the engine, and uses this, along with many other sensors, to determine how much gasoline to squirt.

depending on different parts of the earth you are on, the 4age had different ways of measuring this.

the other being the MAF sensor. NO MAF engines came overseas from toyota dealerships in canada or USA.

it just allows you to use a cone filter...can't use a cone filter unless you have an adapter plate

The stock air box is fitted to the AFM. You cant just take off the airbox and put on the filter. The filter will not have the proper mount. So you need the plate.

So all I would need is a cone filter and adapter plate? Do I get that plate from my dealer?
