Problem w/ OD on tranny swap

i have a 1990 corolla.
we swapped the regular auto trans w/ one that
had OVERDRIVE and i was trying to do the wiring
so that i can activate the on/off switch.

does anyone have any idea on how and where
the wires for this would lead to???

your input would be greatly appreciated.

.......feel sad... my turbo camry got t-boned on driver's side
by a big SEMI truck!!!!

So you were able to swap out the stock 3spd for one with an overdrive? Was it a direct replacement? Is yours FI or Carb?

I'm interesed in upgrading the trans. on my 88 corolla and would like to know how to wire up the OD as well.

dx-r.... yes, it is a direct bolt on.. if you have
a 4AF on your 88.

if it's a different series engine, it won't.

the overdrive is default to work mechanically EVEN without the computer.

my corolla is FI, not carb. but anyway, it will still work.
what the switch does is that when it's activated, then it
turns OFF the OD (downshifting). it's just nice to have
the switch for individual control.
otherwise, when you step on the trottle, it downshifts
automatically.

Mine is a 4AF carb.

Were you still able to use the og torque converter? Are you driving your corolla now? Do you feel a noticeable difference with the new tranny?

You are rite my friend...
But it is better to control it with your feet...
All i know is if you switch the OD off you won engage into 4th gear...
It doesn't change the gear into 2nd... it will only go to 3rd which we don't have the control at the 'GearStick'
Am i correct??? Anyone have ideas...

that is correct...to an extent..

it will depend on where you are speedwise...if you're
on the freeway and in OD, it will switch you down to 3rd
otherwise in slower speeds, down to 2nd.

The OD button only turns off the 4th gear.. its not a downshift button.
