rubbing isn't the issue, if you install a wider tire, you can always install spacers to avoid rubbing, but for a 5.5 thick rim you can't put a 205 tire, I think the minimum 205 goes on is 6.0
You can install the tire on, but you'll have what they call a bubble, which means your tire won't be in the shape it sould be in ..
So I don't recommend it..

Never good to put a tire too big for the rim. I had 205-60-14 on my Oldmobile and although it looked sweet at a stand still driving high speeds there was a wobble, my mechanic said its was from over sizing my tires for the proper rim width. (does this make sense) :???:
Hello Everyone
It all depends on which brand of tire you use realy.
I am running and have run 205/60 R13's for 3 years now on a stock steel 13"/5" rim.
They have seen many Auto-x races, some circle track drag racing, high way blast up to 7200 rpms in 5th (sorry car came as base model so no speedo past 85)
which is somewhere around 130 mph.
Along w/ 100's of runs at the late night racing spots.
The only problem I have had out of 3 sets of tires is a band broke in these cheap ass used GT qulifiers that I got from a friend.(kind of funny the hole car was bouncing from one little band. looks like it grew a sist or something)
Just use the manufactures size guide for fitment issues.
Not all 205's require 6" of width.

They will rub if you put them on the back and carry any load but, I only run these tires on the front where there is more than anuf clearence.
I use 185/60 14's on the rear.
This set up plus springs, struts, and strut bar makes for very balanced cornering when dry. A little tail happy in the rain.
All tires are H rated for top speed of 130 mph.
Plus the 205/60's on the front makes for smaller gearing.
I plan to go w/ Toyo's 195/55 14's all the way around once I get the last rim I need and a rear sway bar to fight the understeer.
Well, now that I have gotten into ramble mode.
C-YA!!
