I have a 1993 Toyota Corolla that until now has not had any problems.

The problem I'm having is that the fuse for the brake lights and the automatic transmission continually blows with no apparent cause. When this happens it causes the fuse for the tail lights, dash lights, etc. to blow. Then you can not get the car out of park without over riding the safety switch for it.

There does not appear to be a problem with the tail lights or the regular brake lights (the wires are not overheating near the bulbs), it might be the high mounted brake light or the automatic transmission switch. Or maybe the brake switch has a bad connection?

If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it because I am at a loss and really need to get her back on the road.

Thank you,
Blonde bulldog???

Is there an aftermarket stereo in the car? A lot of times guy's that dont know what all the wires are for cut em all, and tape sh*t all up. Eventually you get one of them grounding and shorting things out. If thats not it try getting a diagnostic's test to see if theres an electrical problem.

The fuses that have always been in and that are recommended are 15A, that is what I am still using.

No after market items have been installed since I've owned the car or since its manufacture.

It just all of a sudden started doing this.

I would inspect your fuse box to see if there was any metal shards or any "conductive" materials short circuiting your fuse connector. Reason I think this is, and correct me if i'm wrong, is that
if there were a short-circuit after the fuse box, wouldn't the bulbs blow? I mean, after the fuse box and a short circuit, wouldn't the bulbs blow, because there is no other fuse box along the line to take the increased energy flow and thus blowing the bulbs. So inorder for the fuse to blow it would have to be pre-fuse box would it not?
but if it were to be pre fuse box, then wouldn't other fuses go as well, or is it just connected to one specific line which feeds into the braking system or whatever?

just pondering
