Let me just say one thing - The 4wd rolla's go off.. i rallied an ae101 awd sedan for a while here in West Oz and found them to be just what you want in an awd... It was a custom setup in the fact that you could disengage the front diff on it but that is only because the sponsors paid around $3k to do it.. but as for the toyota awd, it is quite a good setup, with plenty of power where you need it. as for the wagon and putting a GE in it.. i would suggest getting an AE101-102 awd (they are rare, but a good find), or failing that get a fwd and drop an awd tranny in it.

The 4A-GE is quite a good engine too, but depending on the awd tranny, it may be a little too weak, as you are putting 121kW (if a silvertop) into a gearbox which is made to withstand 80... but like i said, im not too sure about the gearbox.

I would love to do a 3SGTE swap from a Celica ALL-TRAC into a Corolla AWD wagon.

dood.. There's even FWD Corolla sedans and coupes that have received the 3SGTE treatment, you just need the FWD transmission from a 3SGE and some modding.. and of course money, anything is possible with money and a good Toyota mechanic.

good luck importing, changing to RHD and shipping That is assuming that your location is tasmania, as in the sticky-outy bit at the bottom end of Australia.
