1998 Corolla, 3spd auto tranny swap

Since I am so nice I am replacing my roomates transmission (1998 rolla) for him. We have the old transmission out of the car and the new one is on the way. Are there any tips that the Haynes manual leaves out? We took out the old one while in neutral, an I assume when we mate the new one on there it should also be done in neutral.

This whole automatic thing just isn't as exciting for me.

Are you swapping in a 5-speed man. trans. or a 4-speed auto?

He just wants a straight swap with another 3-speed for some reason.

Anyone done one of these and have any tips? We already replaced the engine so I know a little about the job, just looking for pointers.

The three speed auto makes the car very slow. I would swap in a 4-speed.
Do a search on vvti.net, because I know someone over there just finished a swap in a gen 8.. but it was A/T to M/T. Which is all I've ever seen actually. Mostly people do the swap to gain some performance...
