Starter?

I have a 98 corolla and it isnt starting up right. If i just turn it from "lock" it will crank, pause, and then start up. If I hold it at on for a few secs it will start up fine. What do you guys think this is?
THanks
Daniel

<edit>I do have an alarm, could that slowly drain it if I dont drive the car too much?</edit>

Maybe your battery needs replacing. How many miles on it?

try putting it in the on position then get a wire to jump the starter from under the hood if it starts right up then it may be the switch

i just got it like 500 miles ago when we got the car. When you say jump it do you mean take a wire from the positive and touch the starter?

Bad belt-
Alt. not charging good
