Hey guys, I realize that anything above 6200 RPM's is entering the red line. I was just wondering how high you guys rev your engines. Do you think it will hurt the engine to enter the 7000 and above range. I mean to grab second gear real good you need the revs pretty high it seems like. The thing does seem like it wants to rev like a bastard, but I don't want to spin a bearing or something. Thanks.

Unless you have a diff. ecu (or you had it burnt) there is an RPM limiter.... in first it hits at 6300, second around 6350, third i've gotten it to about 6450 or so..... and it doesn't seem to have any problems (other than sucking the gas down....)

wassup guys, yup I hear u on the lack of power. I'm getting tired of my slow 4a-f and there's not many parts that are available out there. So I was thinking, how about new carbs? What do u guys think? Will there be a significant increase in hp? Will the rev limit increase? What brands are good? Basically is it worth it to put in considering the expense and time?

btw.... i don't have the exact 4a-f.... i actually have the 4a-fe... so the rpm's might differ just slightly (but i'm fairly sure it's very similar)

Don't quote me on this, but I have a 4 AFE and when I first got my SR5 the engine wasn't really taken care of.. I was racing a Civic once and I reved it up to 6,200 RPM and killed my crank shaft..

After replacing the engine with another 4AFE imported from Japan with 35K on it, now I almost always shift on 4000rpm or higher..

I'm using Mobil one 5w-30 synthetic oil...

At the time I tried to get a 2litre engine but they had nothing but a 4AFE and I didn't have the time or the money to wait around till they get something else! So I just put the 4AFE on!

I agree that the 4AFE is gutless - I used to have one. However, my good friend turboed his automatic 4AFE and now it is just as fast as my 4AGZE!!

Anyways, I used to rev my 4AF up so high - I didn't have a tach but I knew I could get up to about 110kph in second gear, haha!

What kind of Turbo is your friend using EricLee, I'm think of getting either a turbo or a supercharger for my car in the near future! I'm pretty sure it would cost me less than swapping an engine in along with wire harness and the ECU..

Just find out where he got it from, I want to go and study the differences and decide wether to get a SC or a Turbo..

http://www.jgstools.com/turbo/

look around.... i have a page for the 4/7a-fe turbo site, but i can't get a direct link to that page (and can't find how to get it)... but it has the turbo headers, and turbos, and intercoolers, downpipes, etc...

but you can't run more than 7psi daily w/o an intercooler... and 10psi is pushing it at the track....

My friend is 4A-FTE who is a member of this board. He's using an IHI turbo from a Mazda 626, Venom fuel pump and Vortech FMU. He can run low-mid 14s on stock compression and 10psi. Dangerous, but that's the way you gots to live life!

10 psi is just the start!! No really, I daily drive 8 psi, which is what I walked Eric's GZE...hehe, an 10 psi, you jump to a new level, imports go bye bye and mullet racer domestic trash starts to become a new challenge  But for the daily ass wippin', it's great little ride. The engine has some potential, but everyone "says" it's limited to it's strength, I'm out to prove that wrong. Just becasue it's an economy head, doesn't mean you can't abuse it, you just have to be responsible with it.

hey 4AFTE.... how many miles do you have on your engine? have you done anything else to the engine (other than what is need with the turbo upgrade.... like intake, bigger exhaust)... special guage installs? new ecu? any afc conotrollers? and what along with the turbo do you have (like intercooler, bov, ya know...).... i'm really curious hearing this from you.... and i've heard other people having little to no problems running a turbo on a 4a-fe....

Isn't safer to Super Charge a small engine like owrs? Or it wouldn't be as much boost as a Turbo Charger?
