formula atlantic engine

okay so I've been doing some reading on the atlantic engine....so its got 240 HP right...is that naturally aspirated? I think it is...I never see turbos or SC mentioned.

and can you buy them? how much would they be, where would you get them?
I saw on ToySport that they give you a list of all these parts that are availible through them from TRD....that are apparently in the atlantic engine.....http://www.toysport.com/New%20Products/Atlantic.htm

so am I right in thinking that If I buy all these parts install them on my engine that I'll get 240 hp.....it dosnt seem right so Im gonna say no.

It won't really idle or run hardly below 4,000 rpm, but yeah, most of those parts could be installed on your car.
Not sure if those engines are run on methanol either.
For the street your car would be faster with a celica drivetrain swap, cheaper too.

to get the answer to your question you have two choices

1) go to www.hasselgren.com
or

2) buy A. Graham Bell's book titled "Performance Tuning for Four Stroke Engines" (or something ot that effect), read it cover to cover.

then you'll know if those parts can get you 240.

Technically, they can; but you'd better damn well know what you're doing and the intricacies of the 4AGE in order to squeeze every last drop of power from it.

Once you've read the book, you'll start to realise that people make a big deal out of the 240 horses. Keep in mind that racers don't do bench racing; in other words, while a higher peak horsepower value might sound nice and all, but for the guys behind the wheel, they only care about USEABLE power and width of the powerband.

Well no not really you probably wont. The engine isnt one you'd want to have on a streetable car, the engine hardly is streetable, because it was designed to go all out. Its not a high miler either, so you'd have to frequently overhaul it and replace the consumables.

to own one, is a dream. i would rather own a N/A 4AGE that produces 240hp rather than a boosted GZE or GTE....
but i have a FF AE92.... depanding on what the car is running, it would matte if you're goin n/a or boosted...

in my opinion, buying one is not worth it, but making one for your own is a nice long term project....but i rather buy a honda and rebuilt the B16a....

Honestly those engine are not for everyday use those formula atlantic engine are racing ONLY !!!. and VVT-i Owns i know a guy that has the formula atlantic cylinder head with has in titanium valves and springs etc.....on his engine and the head along is about $5,000 - $10,000 dollars so if you want one you have to got lots and lots of money example the crankshaft for that engine is $5,358.00 to be sure. oh yeah and prepare yourself to pull down alot after each race meet.

Hey guys..your impute is grealy appreciated.....Obviously having this engine is not for just cruising around in....I just wanted to know more about it.....if anyone has actually had opportunity to drive a car with such an engine...or what they thought of the engine....yeah It would be cool to own one...but the only way it would make sence to have that engine...is to build an all out race car and not have it for your daily driver.......having an engine like that and thinking that your car could be a daily driver is silly.

Allthought it is interesting to learn about that parts list....agian it would be silly to think that its a weekend job to build a formula engine......If one were to want this engine...he should just buy it...and if you have the money or the resourses to buy the engine...then i think it would be safe to think that one has the money or resourses to fix the engine....hmm.

Yea, exactly. I wouldn't mind tearing it apart every month or so to keep it running. It need much more attention cause its reving at 11000rpm. All parts gotta be clean and balanced. You can get to be streetable but you won't get 240HP. With an aftermarket programmable ECU with 2 profiles, you can drive it daily and run it on the track.

I herd some where you can buy the engines complete for $40,000. Not sure if it is true or not.

A viable option is to buy a retired engine used by a race team that is now using a new one. It probably won't have the full power it used to have and you will probably still have to detune it a little just for the sake of giving it a slightly longer life span and for possible streetablility. But it should still belt out some good power.

Though I dream of dropping such an engine in my corolla some day it will probably never happen. If I were to do such a thing I would probably swap out the whole drive train for one out of a supra cuz there is no way in hell the Corolla's tranny or axles will handle that power. I would definatly have a 6 speed gear box for that kind of power as well.

its just cool I think that you can so much power outta such a small engine......I think though If one were to spend the money on the engine...you may as well go all out and just buy an open wheeled race car with the engine......ohh thats a sweet thought!!

I think my friend was mentioning to me the other day you can get a mazda opened wheel race car for about 60 000 bucks!! rotarys are cool!!
