'04 Corolla S rim questions

Hey everyone,

I'm kinda a newbie at this rim changing deal, so please bear with me. I just have a couple questions... I've been in the midst of thinking of getting new rims for my silver corolla s. Currently the 15" stock ones aren't doing it for me anymore. I went to this local place and took a look at the different rims they offer - I want to upgrade mine from 15s to 17" ones that is within my price range......

Anyway, I'm lookin into the ICW 786H's in hyper silver. With 205/40/17 tires, the total package costs around $968.35. Is that a good price? If I upgrade to a higher profile tire (205/50/17) it'll be probably $100 more. Damn, I didn't know rims costed this much! I'm not planning to lower my car any cuz I rather have the factory springs cuz it has some comfort to it; I'm not planning to race anyone or anything... Would this be a problem if I'm changing rim sizes but not lowering?

Now this may sound dumb, but what do u do with the old stock tires when all is done? And what happens if you get a flat or something in the future with the new rims and tires... cuz you're not gonna have a spare in the back that'll fit...? I've always wondered that with people with different rims.

If anyone can help me out on this, I'd really appreciate it!

there are people on this forum selling rims for less than that and if you want to get rid of your old ones then let me know

You need to keep the outside diameter as close to stock as possible (about 25"), so your speedo and odo still work

a 195/65r15 (25") can be swapped for a 205/50r17 (25.1"). Your temp spare will work exactly the same.

check out www.wheelmax.com www.discounttire.com www.tirerack.com. Id keep the wheels in case you ever wanted to sell your car you can put them back on. Im not sure if it will fit in the spare tire well but you might be able to use one as a full size spare. If you get a flat with the 17" rims you do the same as you would with 15" rims-use the spare wheel in the trunk.

ok, so I should go for the more expensive tire- 205/50/17? cuz it's very close to the stock tires? that site with relationship b/w the wheel size and stock size with the spedometer reading says that if i get those wheel specifications... when the spedometer reads 60 mph, i'm really traveling 60.2 mph... is that bad?

about the spare tire ... hypotethically speaking, if i get a flat with the new 17" wheels, i can still use the spare 15" temp one that came with the car? wouldn't that make the car go lobsided?

Sorry if these questions sound stupid... I have no idea when i comes to rims.

the size you'll want is 225/45/17 it will be perfect and the speedo will be dead on
