The power door lock on my left rear door looks to be jammed. The lock itself works fine when used manually. But when the power door lock button is pressed it sometimes works but sometimes goes halfway up/halfway down. I took it to my dealer and they said that its a faulty actuator (took em $60 just to check it out) and that replacement will cost $243 USD. Is my dealer shitting me, or is this true. How hard is it to do yourself?
Right now I'm thinking just not to bother with it since it's too expensive to change. But maybe if I can do it myself I'll do it.
Many times the actuator is not the problem, but the mechanical door lock. My old GM had this all the time. The dealer change 2 actuators, until I learned that all I had to do was pull out the door locking mechanism (in the door) and lube it properly with a good non-drying silicon lube. The onbly hastle was taking the door to bits to get to the lock. Note that you can not do this while the lock is in the door - you have to take it out and give it a good amount of lube on all moving parts and on the surface which touch. The other way to check the actuator is to disconnect the unit from the link to the lock - after you do this go inside the car and close the door. Now press the key (if keyless) and if you hear a noise or see the actuator move - it is AOK. Then simply lube the lock. Good luck!

I think it is just a lube problem, cause I hear the actuator working. Plus when I push down/pull up the lock by hand it moves tougher than the others. Whatever, I don't really care about it. Too much hassle to get to the lock and take it out.
Ah my little babooshka, better to hit the books than get otherwise occupied with the evils of 4 tyres. In Australia we have a saying which will come back and haunt you "IF IT'S GOT TITS OR TYRES IT WILL ALWAYS GIVE YOU TROUBLE AND COST YOU A FORTUNE". Personally, I'm a sucker for Toyotas and buxom blondes - what the heck, you only live once!!!!!

I have the exact same problem on the exact same door. Turns out it was the mechanical part. The reason why i discovered this, is because the inside handle would not spring back into place either. It just needed a bit of oil, and a new spring on the mechanics and its all good
