Gutless when cold

So my '95 corolla 1.8l is gutless when it is cold. If I put my foot to the floor I get less power than if I give it about 1/4 throttle. Any suggestions as to what migh be wrong?

Thanks

Dude if you want your car to have a long life, go as gently as possible on the gas when the engine is cold, especially if it's freezing outside.

5 speed, 385000km, It is usually run at 40kph for 2km before being put to work and even then it is not worked too hard. It is not very cold out right now about 60*F in the mornings. I don't usually drive the car, it is my wifes so I do not know how long it has been like this. I turned onto the main road and accelerated up a small hill. I applied moor and more gas because it was being gutless. Once I hit the floor with my foot and it was not zipping like it should I backed off the throttle. When I got back to about 1/4 throttle it took off like normal.

I know that if you're going uphill and you're like in the low range on the second gear, the response is slow as hell and there's like no acceleration. It's like a dead zone. I know I have to wait for my auto to downshift to first in this case to feel any serious torque.

Maybe you're just used to driving other cars and the Corolla seems slow.

Then again, it might be the clutch or something.

Increased RPMs with no go spells clutch. Is this the case? With that much mileage could just be worn out(low compression). A compression check might be in order.

^ thats what exactly is.....no compression on atleast 2 cylinders.... possible cause:
worn rings
bent valves
worn valve seal.

its time for SWAP

It's not the clutch, although it is original. There is no increase in RPMs. Just gutlessness. I'm thinking time to rebuild of replace the engine. It is burning a litre of oil per tank and economy is down since I drove it regularly a couple years ago.
