AE86 4AGE Safe boost pressure ???

Hello

I am new to Toyotas ... i am reading more every day.

I just bought the HKS turbo kit for the AE86 and i need to know what if the safe boost to run the car at ?

Here is what i got:

- HKS Manifold
- T25 Garrett Turbo (internal wastegate)
- HKS downpipe (with gasket)
- HKS intake piping (HKS couplings)
- Extra Injector already installed on pipe
- HKS turboside intercooler piping
- Oil Pan - (tapped for turbo already, has fitting as well)
- Stainless oil return line with oil press sensor plug / oil hose with heat wrap
- Thunderbird Intercooler ( welding it to a water to air setup )

Here is what i am getting soon:

- Guages ( Boost, A/R, EGT )
- Boost controller
- Turbo II oil cooler
- Engine / Trany mounts

Help me piece the car together :-)

Here is my car ( http://ae86.a-spec.ca )

..

HKS came in 3 stages for the MK1 MR2 so I imagine the ae86 can run the same boost.

Stage 1 = 4.5 psi
Stage 2 = 6 psi
Stage 3 = 9 psi

I'm guessing your kit is comparable to stage 3 since I think it was the only one with the intercooler.

Did you win the kit that was on ebay recently?

I had mine at 7.5 psi but it didn't last too long ..although I think it was more my fault than the actual turbo.

That's a clean looking ride, love the back wheels (now just put some real rubber on 'em ) keep us updated on your progress with the turbo.

Neil

Question ??
how old is the engine? how much useage did it get? did the engine ever got rebuilded? when last was the oil change? etc...all of those things you have to look at because if it never got rebuilded you could be looking at only running 5psi or less. Remember the older the engine is the weaker the components get, eg. piston rings, valve seals, head gasket and the list goes on. I'm not trying to rain on your sunny day but i'm trying to help. so before you do anything check those things first. it doesn't make sence turbo charging an engine and it only works for a week. if your going to do something, do it right the first time. But on the other hand I would run 3psi first to see how the engine reacts then go from there.
Good Luck!!!!

I'm not worried so much about the rebuilding, I'm worried about the compression ratio.

I have stock cooling system with a junkyard electric fan and my car doesn't even run close to hot with I/C and oil cooler in front of radiator.

Here's an early pic, it looks a little different these days. Don't knock the foil, it works great for heat shielding in a pinch!
