Am I getting screwed?

About a year ago my 95' Corolla's fuel tank develoved a leak and I had to replace it ($300). This morning I noticed the smell of gas and a puddle of gas under the car again,..I took it to a mechanic and he said there are "holes" in the tank and he would try to patch it,..then I call the mechanic this afternoon and he says he cannot gaurantee how long the repair will last and I will probably need to replace the tank but he is charging me $90 to do it,.. am I getting screwed here. And why do gas tanks fail so quickly?

Hmmm car-part.com... it's good but it's failed me before. Costing me a 1.5 hour drive there and 1.5 hours back early in the morning.

Make sure you prime it with rust proof paint and spray underbody/rocker guard all over it before you put it in.

Thanks Pineapple, and nice one Ukranian, my corolla has same body style as yours but in light blue,..I think the guy whos working on my car is a crook,..but I'm already $90 in the negative with this guy so he needs to comlete the repair. The used parts site falnfenix suggested has gas tanks listed by Corolla FX and non FX,...what is the difference?

You want non-FX, if you have a 93-97.

By the way... I did call them like 3 times when I needed my tach.
Here's the story:

Ok so today I woke up at 7:30 and drove an hour to Interstate Auto Parts in Tioga Center, NY. I get there I'm like "I need an instrument cluster with a tach for my 95 Corolla". The guy's like ok looks like I got one right here. I'm like cool.

So the guy calls some other guy to go get the part, and the other guy is like "well these things that we have don't have tachs". The first guy's like "well in the system it says with tach"......... then he's like "oops sorry" and I'm like ROOOOOOOOOOOOAARRRRR

Then I drive an hour back. And the thing is I called them like 3 times to make SURE they had the part still.

Gonna try my local junkyard this week cause according to their SYSTEM a junkyard right by me has what I need. F***ing ***s.

But that's just a bad junkyard.
