Unhappy Trouble Starting 2000 Crolloa

I have a 2000 corolla (man transmission). I've had trouble starting my car for two days. It seems like the battery is dead or dying, but it does eventually start after a couple of minutes.

When I turn the key, I get a clicking sound. After a few more key turns I will get the feeling the car is about to turn over (a kind of "wump wump" sound and feeling). Each time it has eventually started after a few minutes. This just started happening all of a suddden.

I know that getting the clicking sound usually idicates it is some sort battery problem. If anybody has any thoughts, I would really appreciate it before I blow lots of money on a mechanic.
THANKS!!

Ok, check your battery connectors for corrsion. If possible you can replace them with stainless connectors. Be sure you connect them tightly on the baterry terminals. If that does'nt work, have you starter checked.

Autozone will do a free diagnostic on it for you. Probably need a new battery or like rey said, they're corroded. It doesn't sound like a starter.
