mysterious trunk leak!

I have an 89 Rolla LE and iam having a problem with the board under the carpet being wet...but the carpet is always dry!! ....how is the water getting in my trunk without making the carpet wet???

go into the trunk with a flashlight and ask a pal to spray water on the rear end of the car with a hose. You'll see where it leaks from

The most likely place is from around the rear lights. Check it as said above and then you will need a $2 tube of sealant to put around them.

both of my toyotas leak in the trunk. on my fx it leaked around the back glass, on the ae86 it leaked around the trunk seal and the taillight seals.

A quick fix for preventing accummulation of rust, mold and mildew, from water leaks into the trunk area. Just remove one of the rubber drain plug under the spare wheel well in the trunk and let the rain water drain out. This will do the trick until you are able to fix the leak.

and water will come in everytime you drive in the rain too. Not a very smart thing to do.

I just had that problem......take the tail light out and genourous amounts of silicon sealant....a big thick bead...that should stop the leak!

Not in my experience, this plug is not located in the rear driving wheel well, it is located in the middle of the car. Water does not jump from the road up into your trunk. This is known as gravity.
