carolla LE 2000 flex pipe issue

Hi Folks,

I have a carolla 2000 with 90K miles on it. The car recently started makeing noise like an old desel car. I took it to a garage and he said that its the flex pipe which is rusted and it would cost $700 to fix if he did it and if i got it done by the delear it will be $2000.

My question is.

Is the dealer correct in his estimate, secondly arnt toyotas rust guranteed for life so the dealer should do it for free if its the rust that caused this.

I have not much knowledge about cars. Please HELP!!

$700 to fix a flex pipe?? WTF?? you can buy them at some shops for like $75-100 CDN. Try going to an exhaust shop and see how much they will charge you.. chances are your flex pipe is not covered for life.. the body of the car is most likely the one under warranty.

where are you from? IE, what kind of dollars are those? My brother was quoted $200CAD to weld in a new flex pipe, AND a O2 sensor bung.
