Question Rim Security Questions

Because I just got on new rims now, I'm worried about their security now. There are 5 lugnuts that attach the rim to the wheel chaisse. All 5 are cylindrical with a hexagonal shape inscribed within it. So you would need a "key" that fits the hexagonal shape in order to unscrew a lugnut.

I just happened to compare stock rims with mine and most stock rims I've seen have a lock or cover that covers the hexagonal hole. I was wondering if I would need something like that to cover/protect my lugnuts in order to prevent any person from stealing my rims... yeah I'm paranoid :? Cuz right now, I think any person with a hexagonal shape tool could just unscrew the lugnuts and take them off. Am I just being paranoid or is this something I should really get?

If that's the case, then where could I get some lugnut covers? Any recommendations or suggestions?

Thanks!

Your local parts supplier or Toyota dealer will sell wheel locks in a set of 4 (1 for each rim). They require a matching imprint key in order to remove the locks - which are round and not hexagonal.

Personally I've always fell that this is only a deterrent for the quicky grab-and-dash thief. If they want your rims, they're gone because there's a limited number of keys available. "If" I was a professional crook, I'd steal all the possible keys from my local parts supplier, and then go to town and snag everyone's rims.

Best defence is: Don't park your car where you can get your rims stolen.

Normal lugnuts or those hex nuts are a piece of cake to open, even an amateur will open them in minutes. Only good locknuts are mcgards, those have a very sophisticated design.

i think the best rim security i've ever seen is on my friend's Advans...the center cap requires 2 keys to remove it...and it comes off in stages. it's crazy...but those wheels aren't coming off the car anytime soon.

You can use different lock for each nut
You'll go nuts trying to take the wheel out too
Probably 2 different set will get the thief to think twice.

the police rims depending on where you live use the chrome caps and supposedly they're specially made (keys) to unlock the cap then u still have to find the keys for the nuts but i have found the best defense for your rims is to stay strapped and shoot on the dot so you don't f**k up your rims
