Is your car EFI? Check for clogged injectors, or carb tuning...

Does it sttuter when you first gas it up or when it's in high RPM? Does it do it in city driving or just in certain times and RPMs? Can you give us more details!

If it doesn't respond right away and takes time for the RPM to pick up, and it comes back on the Highway (For example) then it could be your O2 sensor..

Yep, that would have been my suggestion exactly.

Then it's your O2 sensor, go and get it checked. Or if you have the patience sit down and read your car manual, there's two terminals in your fuse box that when you hook up together you car flashs the headlights and gives you a number!

Then you find the number in the manual and it should tell you what's wrong..

Of course if you don't want to do that, then just take it to a mechanic and have him check it..

Good luck

dunno if this helps but for an 86...
When you use the diagnosis box, located by
your windshield wiper motor, and short the correct terminals, it gives you an error code which is stored into the ECU.

Short the terminals, then turn your ignition to the "on" position, and your "engine check" light will flash a pre-determined number of times. Count them, and then match it up with the book, and theres your problem.

P.S. RTFM stands for Read the F***ing Manual

geez, that was supposed to be a joke! i already know that it wouldn't flash the headlights (that'd be too annoying and mechanics/owners wouldn't like that engineering)..... so i figured there's either a light on the ECU unit (like on some acura cars), the parking lights flash, or one of the dummy lights are triggered.....

Well, on the Miata it was the parking lights.. Some cars it's a beep, and some cars it's the check engine light..
