why does the gas station nozzle click when it shouldn't?

I have a '97 corolla, and everytime i goto a gas station to fill up, the nozzle clicks as though my tank is full. And no my tank is not full. =D

Does anyone have any idea why this happens and how to fix it?

thx.

Post gas nozzle....

There's nothing to do about it
It's like that with all cars.
You just have to press the trigger very gently.....
or you can try pushing the nozzle as much as you can down in to the hole:-)
Got the same prob.....

I am sorry but not every car is like that. I have a 2004 Corolla and that clicking drives me crazy. Specially since it is illegal in NJ to pump your own gas. If I filled it up all the way, I can get another 100 miles out of my gas tank.

My fiance has a 2002 Subaru Impreza and when it clicks, it is full. Used to filling up my car, I tried putting more gas into the Impreza and I made a big mess at the gas station.

I just try to pump my own gas and I do it slowly.
