annoying seat belt chime

Hey all,
I just bought a 2005 Corolla and love it! except for one thing: The damn seat belt chimes for about 30 secs when i start the car and it's annoying (does it for the passenger too). Is there any way to shut it off (aside from wearing the seat belt, i hate seat belts and will drive myself insane listening to the chime before wearing the belt).
Thanks!

PS please skip the lecture on why i should wear a seat belt, yadda, yadda...I hate them, they are uncomfortable and refuse to wear it. Thanks again!

[lecture]Oh thats just really smart[/lecture]

Anyways, I dont think theres a way to disable the seatbelt warning chime, except if you can find a fuse or you wanna rip the bell out.

I was waking up the neighborhood with the buzzer that would come on when I got out of my '81 Corolla with the engine running to open the garage door. There is a little box labeled buzzer underneath the dash. I found the buzzer by sticking my head where my feet would normally go (contortionist position), then sticking the key in the ignition and following the sound. I pulled out the plug going into box and now I don't get key in ignition with door open warnings, but neither do I get seatbelt warnings (I could probably do something more sophisticated with cutting select wires to resolve this I guess, but my belt is always on). On the other hand, doing something like this on your more spohisticated car would probably cause the check engine light to come on. The next level of fix would be to install padding around the chime.

Mind you, my conscience will be bothering me for the rest of the day because anybody who doesn't wear a belt deserves at least the purgatory of 30 seconds of chimes. (I don't care if you're killed outright, but maintaining the brain dead and severely maimed ups insurance premiums for the rest of us)

wellll guess what. you're getting one anyway. sortof.

hope you enjoy death, because there's a strong likelihood that you'll die if you're in a major car accident. hope you like tickets, too, because cops love folks like you. you're easy money.

Thanks! (I think)

I know with some of the Fords there is some song and dance you have to do in order to disable the seatbelt chime annoyance, but apparantly not with the Toyota unless I attack it mechanically something I'm not about to do since I don't want to screw up anything mechanically.

I'm sooo glad I added that part about not receiving a lecture I know the dangers of not wearing a seatbelt just as I know the dangers of wearing one and as it is either hit or miss, I've gone with the decision of not wearing one in order to be comfortable while driving, which in turn makes me a better driver. if i wear the seatbelt, i'm annoyed and easily agitated and less likely to react to a situation quickly.

I've been a couple accidents where people decided that running a red light or stop sign seemed a good idea to them, i've been in a motorcycle accident because of some jackass pedestrian and i'm fine, so i have to assume that god wants to toy with me for a bit before killing me outright, so all i really want is to get in my car and not hear an annoying beep-beep.

So, anyway, thanks!

but what you don't realize is you'll hear it whether or not you use your belts, unless you remove the chime/relay entirely...

*sighs* such a waste. hope Darwin doesn't kill you too badly.

your arguement on why you dont wear it really is rediculous. Saying you can react better w/o it on because you're more comfortable is BS. MANY TIMES accidents are unavoidable. (I.E. someone running a light) They hit you, guess what? YOU DIE! You can either listen to us and start wearing it, or hope natural selection passes you by.

Hehe...this is just silly

No, i do realize it, which is why i'm just going to leave it alone and just deal with the noise, it's only 30 seconds and I have a cd player that can go louder than the beeping, I was just hoping to get rid of the beep entirely like you can do with some cars, that's all. And, well, Darwin himself is dead and so are a lot of his outdated ideas, so I don't think I have to worry too much about him.

It's not BS or ridiculous because we are talking about a state of mind, not something that you can actually prove. In my mind, that seatbelt is annoying and therefore what I'm thinking about while I'm wearing it instead of focusing on the road and the people who may not be paying attention to the rode. Yes, most accidents can be avoided, but usually only by the person attentive enough to avoid the accident and your comment about if I get into an accident, I die is obviously ridiculous because I have been in accidents and yet here I am, mainly because I was attentive enough so that the accident wasn't as bad as it could have been.
So...ummm...can we just all agree that I'm not wearing a seatbelt ever and just deal with it?

Here's something you can try, don't know how much of an effect it has. Unscrew the gage cluster and remove the light that blinks when the you're not wearing your belt, maybe that would work.

Personally I hate the stupid belts in my '04 corolla, the tend to react for no reason. I even almost crashed becuase of the belt. But I don't have the money for the ticket or neither do I want to die. But when I feel like it, I don't wear them. Althought the only thing in my car is that I don't have the annoying chime, I just have the light blinking.

Cut the wires to the sensor in the belt clip and remove the bulb in the dash. The sensor is a closed circuit until a seat belt is applied, then it opens the curcuit to stop the beeping. The dash from the GT-Apex i got in there is the same thing... but because the old seats i got dont have sensors, i dont get the noise.

BTW: I have seen people die travelling at 5km/h in cars from not wearing seatbelts. My father used to be a Fire and Rescue officer. Here are three nice stories that may make you think otherwise:

1. Car: Hyundai Excel. Speed: ~5km/h Ijuries: Fatal. Stab Wound to the heart and lungs. Cause of death: Steering wheel collapsed impailing the driver on the column. Seatbelt: No.

2. Car: Toyota Camry. Speed: ~10km/h Injuries: Fatal. Collapsed lungs, broken ribs. Cause of death: Driver was thrown forward as the airbag deployed, flap of airbag opened and crushed drivers ribs causing collapsed lungs. Seatbelt: No

3. Car: Holden Commodore (and most others). Speed: ~110km/h. Injuries: Shock, Bruising to upper torso and slight lasserations. Severe Laserations to legs. Cause of Death: N/A. Seatbelt: Yes.

If you ask me... not wearing a seatbelt is just stupid, really. I would rather end up hospitalised and survive than dead. Oh... and i got more gory stories for you if you like. As for not getting a lecture... You only asked for one when you said that you dont wear a seatbelt.
