Alarm Problem - any ideas ?

'99 Corolla developed intermittant fault where alarm went off when ignition was switched off, a quick off & on and it was ok.

Went to main dealers who said the key fob needed re-programming, no cure but £45 from wallet.

They then said the siren was at fault, replaced with new one, no cure but £140 from wallet.

They then said it was the control unit at fault, they would replace it and credit me for the siren. Sorry Sir, it was both control unit & siren. No cure but another £150 from wallet.

They now want to keep the car for 3-4 days !

Any Ideas ?

Well at first sight this sounds like a wiring problem. First I suggest checking ALL the wirings, before buying/changing any new parts to it. Most of this kind of problems are caused by bad connections. Not sure, but this operation might save some money.

Went back to dealers who gave me a full refund and put my siren & ecu back.

Since then, 1.5 hours, the problem has disappeared !

You were right in that there must have been a poor contact and reconnecting cleared the problem.

A lesson for us all.
