Hi all. Hope someone can help me with this question.
I have a 1995 corolla and had the CEL come on. Got it checked at a Toyota dealership and after OBD scan, ws told that the EGR valve and gasket need replacement (the EGR valve is supposedly blocked). The total cost comes upto 600+. Does this need to get fixed urgently? I ask because, besides the CEL and occasional smell of gas that emanates for a short time, the car is working well - no stalling etc. Is there any conservative measure I can take to avoid or delay this repair?

You don't need it until you go emission test. You may not need it too. Take the valve out and clean it with throttle body cleaner. Check vaccum lines on EGR system and make sure they're not leaking or plugged. I don't think fuel injection cleaner will help but it won't do any harm.
