89 Corolla wagon (160,000 miles) carburetor sucking oil from valve cover when floored going up mountains. Do I have a problem with air intake which is creating more suction than normal to valve cover?

Check your PCV valve 1st.

Yea, the PCV valve blows crank case air into your intake.. it's part of the crank case circulation system.. so replace the PCV valve.. See if it still does it..
the 4AGE guys end up using a catch can to catch oil from going into the intake.. it's a good idea because that oil then starts to clog up your intake manifold.. and in your case the carburetor.
