Haha, in Canada is states short for statistics? In the US we use the terms stats. Anyways, the fuel gauge is only accurate on flat ground, and even then, sometimes it's hard to tell what is correct and what is not. I found the best way to calculate miles/gallon is to fill up the tank completely, reset the trip odometer, then next time fill up all the way, use the amount of gallons that you filled up and divide the miles driven by the amount of gallons.
If you don't want to pay Toyota to change it, find a coupon or a good price on an oil change at a Jiffy Lube, Valvoline Oil, or other 10-minute oil change place.
