I am looking for some tips to change the lower control arm bushing for a 80-87 Corolla
RWD. (Which are more or less the same 80-87).

I plan on using TRD bushings PN.
48654-AE851. Anyone have a quote on these so
I can sort of compare prices?

Removing the Macpherson strut is no problem
I have done it several times already and every bolt has been AntiSeized.

The problem with the lower arm bushing is getting the SST 09726-12021 (SST-Special Service Tool) or equivalent (according to the TC Manual), which look like several collars to keep the arm from collapsing when RE+RE the bushing. Toy dealer says no longer available, try OTC they make Toyota's SSTs, OTC says can't find anything.

How tough is the RE+RE with the bushing being in there exposed to the elements for years?

thanks

can't buy trd bushings individually...you have to by the whole set. At least, thats the last I know. a set ususally goes for $500 cdn...thats every single bushing and the upper mounts.

You'll need a machine shop or the like with access to a hydraulic press in order to pull out and push in the bushings for all the lowers and uppers.

Doing the bushings is not hard. It just requires a lot of patience, elbow grease and akwardness. Most of it however, can be done at home provided you have the tools.

i brought mine to the shop, cause I didn't wanna deal with the aggivation.

Anyway, you CAN buy the bushings individually, give Applewood Service Center a call 905.275.1919, and tell 'em I sent you.
